GRAY-HEADED KITE(Species Account Weblog #89)

TAXONOMIC TREE:

  • BINOMIAL NAME: Leptodon cayanensis

The Grey-headed Kite is extensively distributed in lowland forested habitats from Central America south to southern Brazil and Uruguay. Grownup is distinctive, with a comfortable grey head, darkish eyes (no yellow within the face, in contrast to most hawks), and reasonably small grayish toes. (from Birds of the World)

In Costa Rica we noticed 2 Grey-headed Kites hovering over Rancho Naturalista.
