FASCIATED TIGER-HERON – (Species Account Weblog #81)
TAXONOMIC TREE:
- ORDER: Pelecaniformes,
- FAMILY: Ardeidae,
- BINOMIAL NAME: Cochlearius cochlearius
The Boat-billed Heron is a weird nocturnal heron of mangroves and freshwater marshes in tropical lowlands; spends the daytime roosting in bushes, usually in unfastened teams. Comes out at evening to feed alongside the sting of lakes and rivers. Simply recognized by enormous ‘boat invoice’ and massive brown eyes. Grownup has black crown, pinkish breast, and silvery grey again; immature sample related, however plumage duller and browner total. (from Birds of the World)
SIMILAR SPECIES
The Boat-billed Heron is recognized by its broad, thick invoice, its reasonable measurement, black cap, white brow and cheeks, and gray again and wings. It can’t be confused with some other hen.
