HEERMANN’S GULL – Pura Vida Birds and Birding – Reflections of the Pure World

HEERMANN’S GULL(Species Account Weblog #68)

TAXONOMIC TREE:

  • BINOMIAL NAME: Larus heermanni

Distinctive smoky-gray gull with crimson invoice. Breeding adults have a clear white head that blends seamlessly into the grey neck; nonbreeding adults have smudgy darkish streaking on the top. Immatures are solely darkish brown with a yellowish or reddish invoice with a darkish tip. Virtually completely coastal; normally seen in flocks loafing on seashores or feeding in nearshore waters. Juveniles and first-year birds of all different North American gulls are paler and extra mottled general. Additionally, pink to reddish invoice base and blackish legs of Heermann’s Gull is current in all age teams.

Extraordinarily uncommon in Costa Rica, we noticed a single 1st 12 months chicken whereas on the boat tour on the mouth of the Tárcoles River.
